Our Christmas *Tree* Story

Thanksgiving is over and I can officially get into the Holiday spirit! Since this is mine and Scott’s first Christmas as husband and wife, we decided it’s time to start some family traditions!!  :) First on our list, cutting down our Christmas tree!

I had done a family session up in Healdsburg and while driving back through Santa Rose on highway 12 I passed this Christmas tree farm! Done and done. The North Eagle Tree Farm is on the Santa Rosa/Sonoma boarder right amongst some of our favorite wineries.

Never mind the fact that is was a 70+ degree day, the leaves knew better and had all ready started changing!

There are many different kinds of trees growing on this lot and they are all mixed in with each other. Amazing to find this in the midst of hills and hills of vineyards! We grabbed our saw an headed out…

Of course there had to be Palm Trees too!:)

Scott and I searched for maybe 30 minutes…

And then we found our perfect tree!

We (I mean Scott) chopped it down…

Then we (I mean Scott again) carried it all the way back to the front. Hey, I was on picture duty!

We paid for it and on the car it went.

After we were done, we walked over to the little pottery shop (pictures of this will be in a different post) which is right in the middle of the lot. They were serving hot apple cider. We had to pretend it was a chilly, cold day just so we could have a cup! We found a special ornament of a vine and grapes. Naturally I had to have it!

Once we got home we turned on the Christmas music, poured one of our favorite bottles of wine (thank you, Westwood!) and decorated away!

Scott and I have been collecting ornaments since we first started dating six years ago. We have many ornaments from our travels together and ornaments representing the states our families live in! Mainly Minnesota (Scott’s family and where he grew up) and Montana (my aunt and uncle who we love to visit)! We even date the ornaments. Does anyone else do this? While we are hanging them on the tree, we talk about all the fun we have had on these trips. I remember doing this while I was growing up. Scott does too!

Sara Bliss - Looks like so much fun!! We collect and date ornaments too. We have quite a variety and I love it! Makes more a much more personalized tree. I think that is a great new tradition!

marcie - Sara, I think so too! And it brings back so many awesome memories when you start talking about all the fun you had on a particular trip. :)

Mindy A - Totally date our ornaments! And then when you have kids, you’ll definitely date and name because they’ll fight over them! Not that that has happened in our house 😉 Beautiful photos and story!
