I love photographing newborns. I have always been good at handling babies. Whether they are 2 days old or 11 months old, I have been blessed with a special talent of working with kids. This comes in especially handy while photographing those brand new kiddos!
You would think it would be easy-peasy, right? How hard can it be? They sleep ALL the time, especially during the day. I’m here to tell you that it’s not as easy as it looks. Sure, some babies sleep right through a photo session. Others, cry the whole time. Honestly, either is fine with me. I work with what I have and if a baby is going to cry the whole time, then we will take some pictures of just that!
Of course, a newborn session always takes more time than a normal session. I usually allow for at least 2 hours spent with a newborn. I am really working on their schedule. I always have the moms feed their little ones about 30 minutes before I arrive. I want them to have a full tummy, yet a little time to digest and get any of those air bubbles out. Hopefully by the time I get there they are already nice and sleepy. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. We take many breaks throughout the session for changing, feedings, rocking…and that’s ok!
Baby Emerson was especially good for me! Sure she had her little diva moment, but it wasn’t until the end of our session. She was a perfect little model and very easy to pose! My kind of baby! Plus, she is absolutely adorable!
