Kale chips…they don’t sound very good. Or at least I didn’t think they did at first. However, I have heard they are easy to make and actually taste pretty good so why not?! I didn’t know what to expect, but I was hopeful and when I saw them at the Farmer’s Market the other day I decided to give it a whirl.
Here’s what you need: Kale (duh), olive oil and sea salt (or anything else you think might be tasty like a little garlic powder or chili powder). That’s all!
Here’s how you do it: Preheat your oven to 300 and spread some olive oil on a baking sheet. Rinse the kale and dry with a paper towel. Remove the stems and the tough center. Cut up into bite size pieces and put in a plastic bag. Drizzle with a little oil and shake it up! Place them on the baking sheet one by one and make sure they don’t overlap (at least that’s how I did it). Add a touch of salt and stick those puppies in the oven! Bake for 20 minutes (time may vary so just keep an eye on them until they are crisp). Take them out and enjoy!
Easy-peasy! They are crunchy, tasty and super healthy! You can also crunch it up and sprinkle some over salads, homemade pizza and popcorn to add some extra taste.
Let me know if you have any other recipes for Kale. I would love to hear them!
Enjoy!

Summer - Those sound very interesting. I may have to give them a whirl!
marcie - Yes, Summer! Give them a try. Let me know what you think of them. I had a friend tell me she does the same with spinach too. Enjoy!
Sonya Yruel - I love the photos! I tried it tonight with fresh minced garlic and they were amazing!
marcie - Oooh, I am so happy you tried it! I am going to try it with garlic next time too. Yummm! Thanks for stopping by.

Cheezy Kale Chips
Ingredients:
1 large bunch of curly, green kale, washed, large stems removed, torn into bite size pieces
Coating:
1 cup cashews (soaked 2 hours)
1 red bell pepper
juice of 1 lemon
2 t agave
1 T nutritional yeast
1/2 t sea salt
Cut coating into processor and blend until smooth. Using your hands, massage coating into kale pieces getting it inside of curls. Put on dehydrator sheet and dehydrate at 105 overnight or until dry. Flip and dehydrate until crispy.
I’m sure you could do it in an oven too, although I’ve never done it. Dehydrating it keeps the chips “live” Enjoy!
This recipe is my favorite for kale chips. I really love habanero ranch flavor, which whole foods carries, but I haven’t replicated the recipe yet. =)
marcie - Nice! I am going to try this recipe next week! I will get more kale at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday. Yummm. Sounds good!
