Raise Your Hand If You Love BBQ?

ME! ME! ME! *jumping up and down with both hands waving in the air*

Scott, Dustin and Mike are three awesome dudes. They are good at a lot of things. But, there is one thing that they are amazing at…BBQING! I mean, tons of people like to BBQ, right? They have their family and friends over on a nice, warm summer afternoon and hang out at the park or the pool or in their backyards and BBQ up some chicken, hamburgers, maybe some hotdogs. It’s the life, really! Well, at least for me it is! haha

These three guys have taken BBQing a few steps further. They are the boys from Starvin Marvins Bay Area BBQ! They are about to start their second year as a competition BBQ team and man-0-man are they bringing the competition. They have been practicing for months trying to perfect their cook. They are nailing down their BBQ rubs, BBQ sauce, prep work, cook times and temperatures, taste, texture, smoke ring, the presentation of their turn in boxes…EVERYTHING!

Just last night they got together for an overnight cook. That’s right…overnight! They started their cook at 11pm and every two hours they had to check the temperatures and the meat. They were making pork and brisket; which take the longest to make. The brisket came off around 10am and the pork around 12pm.

The three of them stood around the meat for about 45 minutes talking about it, cutting it up, poking it, tasting it, analyzing everything about it. Then they put them in the “turn in box” as if they were entering the box and the meat in a competition. Serious stuff, huh?!!

I am working with Starvin Marvins Bay Area BBQ this year. I will be documenting their progress and their season from start to finish. They will be competing in CBBQA (California BBQ Association) competitions for the first time! Last year they were in the backyard division. They hope to win Rookie Team of The Year and I really do think they have it in them to pull it off!

So, what’s the best part about documenting a BBQ team? Eating the amazing food at the end! Check out a few of the pictures from last weekends cook. I can’t wait to hang out with these guys and document their progress!

*Fun little side-note here: the guys carefully hand picked and carved each piece of meat they put in the turn in box!

Hope you enjoyed the post! I’m off to the gym to work off all that yummy BBQ! haha
